Andy Nunn: Looking for close season helpers.
There was plenty of positive debate amongst supporters during the course of the inaugural Football League season as the quality of the playing surface remained high and Head Groundsman Andy Nunn has been speaking to the clubs official website recently about his close season duties at the EBB Stadium.

The former Aldershot Town player is rightly proud of the acolades that he has received with regard to the playing surface and he told The Shots: "There were many compliments last season and that is great to hear.

"The pitch undoubtedly stood up well as the season progressed and it was voted fourth in the 'Groundsman of the Year' awards. At the end of the season it looked as good as I have seen it.

"It is about pride too but you are always looking to improve the standard season upon season."

Having finished just outside the top three in the official awards Andy joked that he had it all planned and he continued: "I didn't want to win it in the first year of the Football League. That would be embarrassing. Seriously though it does show the difference being able to work full time on the pitch.

"There was plenty of effort put in which enabled protection to the pitch during the winter months which also meant that as we came out of the cold spell there was still plenty of grass on the pitch."
