Aldershot Town’s dull, unenthusiastic and boring style of play was reflected in a drop of almost 600 supporters per game last season in the latest figures published by the BBC Sports website.
The club only managed an average gate of 2271 as they sunk to relegation for the first time in the clubs history under the “leadership” of Dean Holdsworth who was eventually sacked by the Board, who themselves have come in for much criticism following mismanagement which has seen the club enter the close season in administration.
A drop of 593 spectators on the 2011-12 average (of 2864) should have rang alarm bells long before Holdsworth was removed from his post, but the Boards failure to act just about summed up a dismal season which has resulted in uncertainty about the clubs very future.
Current club administrators, Carl Jackson and Paul Goddard have already dramatically cut the clubs wage bill by releasing thirteen of the players so far and there is expected to be a further update on the situation after further meeting believed to being held tomorrow (Wednesday 22nd May 2013).
