ENGLAND C team manager Paul Fairclough has named Aldershot Town defender Joe Oastler in his squad to face Latvia.

Paul Fairclough has picked what is being described as an “experimental squad” to travel to next month’s England C International in Jelgava, Latvia on Tuesday September 10th against the Latvian U23’s with only hat-trick hero James Norwood and goalkeeper Mitchell Walker retain their places from the side who won 6-1 against Bermuda back in June and the match is set to provide Fairclough with an opportunity to assess his pool of players ahead of next year’s International Challenge Trophy (ICT) fixtures against Slovakia, Turkey and Estonia.

Speaking to the media Fairclough said: “While it does appear to be a long wait until the Slovakia match, this does give me the opportunity to look at a number of new faces and I will be taking twelve new players to Latvia.

“We also have a home friendly in November against the Czech Republic U21 side which will be another tough test.

“By the time we get to the March friendly I will have a good idea of who will form the basis of the squad going into what will be three very competitive ICT matches.

“We beat Estonia 1-0 a couple of years ago and we have a score to settle with Turkey after our semi-final loss in February.

“The opening fixture in Slovakia will be interesting as it will be the first meeting between the sides in this competition.”
