In a message to supporters, club Chairman Karl Prentice stated, "Aldershot Town FC has partnered with Spider Networks and Digital Ink and redesigned the club's official website and content to better reflect the growing strength of the club's brand and fan base. Fans will have more online shopping facilities, ticketing convenience, a set of online communications tools to interact with the club's manager and players. They will also receive exclusive club SMS, audio and video news as the website expands. We are in the early stages of the website and although we are proud to be able to launch the site today we will be building it further over the coming weeks and finalising the finer details of each section.
"In addition to the traditional day to day information that you will be able to obtain through the website on all aspects of the club we will be offering packages to supporters who wish to take advantage of modern technology as follows:
"There will be four packages on offer, all with interactive communications tools and a personalised club-branded email for life as standard. The start point is the Core package at £36.99 per annum, or £3.99 per month. Fans will be able to subscribe to additional services such as SMS alerts or access to the new media centre, or to the Core Premium package for all services.
"From the club's website, fans can choose the package that fits best, and pay either annually or monthly."
The site hasn't gone live without making a bang either - the Chairman has been quoted as saying, "Since Shotsweb informed the Club that they did not want to continue being the official voice of the Shots, it spurred on the directors of your Club to fill the void. So I hope when you have viewed the Site, you will like what you see.
"I take this opportunity in thanking all of the workers behind the scenes from Shotsweb for the support they have given Aldershot Town Football Club ."
This of course is in contradiction to public perception that the club told Shotsweb it no longer wished them to be the official site - a decision which was strange considering the (Shotsweb) team offered to set up all of the functions now available on the new site.
On the whole the new site looks pretty good - and regardless of where supporters stand with regards to its birth, only time will tell if it is successful or not.
