Ticket Row Was Misunderstanding

The Aldershot News reporter - Rebekah Wheller has spoken to Karl Prentice this week and he has hit back at controversial claims that he was about to increase admission prices at Aldershot Town next season — insisting it had all been a "misunderstanding”.

The Chairman explained that Friday's meeting of the board of directors was in fact to discuss new children's season ticket prices, and as a result, a new scheme to encourage children into the Recreation Ground has been introduced - as reported in this sites previous news item.

Directors have vowed to bring in a £50 high-value season ticket for children, which will allow supporters onto either the terrace or to sit in their own sit to watch the Shots in action — including all pre-season friendlies and Chelsea reserve games at the Rec.

Mr Prentice said: "The meeting was never about putting prices of adult tickets up, there was obviously a misunderstanding somewhere along the line, it was always to discuss children's prices.

“We're really pleased with the new scheme, it works out at less than £2 a game when you include friendlies and the Chelsea games.

"We know there has been some negativity but we can only do so much, as directors we all have day jobs. We're not like the players and management who are in full-time, so every now and then we have to get together and have meetings.

“We're always trying to find new ways of bringing in money for the club. I know people think we hold back information, but we can only give it out once it has been clarified."

Discounts for children will also be run through the Football in the Community scheme and up until 11am on the day of a match, children can purchase tickets for £5, after that tickets will be £7 (terrace) and £8 (seating) to fall in line with concession prices.

As Mr Prentice and his board look forward to what promises to be an exciting season, the chairman has once again giving his 100% backing to manager Terry Brown.

"This is going to be an exciting season — it needs to be after the disappointment of last two seasons.

“We're going for third time lucky, and I think we'll be up there among the top sides.

“Terry has got a good budget to work with, in the league we're in the top three budgets. I want to make sure we are bringing in the right people, we want people here that want to play for the club, once they start getting greedy they can go elsewhere.

"I think we need five or six new additions, which I know Terry will get, this year's aim is simple, we want to win the league.

“We won't panic until about the third week of July, watch this space there's no alarm. Terry has got the best budget an Aldershot Town manager has ever had, he has never been turned down, he will always be backed,” he added.

Mr Prentice also said the response to season tickets so far had been "very pleasing" but expected more tickets to be sold closer to the start of the season.

"We've received 900 applications for season tickets which is a very pleasing situation to be in, we've also had 100 new applications and we're still waiting for renewals which always take a bit longer as people wait to see who we're bringing in and what the team will look like.

"We're trying to get people into the ground, and make our tickets great value, we're working all the time to improve things, helping supporters get to the ground, and bring in new supporters."
