Speaking to the clubs official website after Saturday's League wo win against Accrington Stanley, Shots boss Gary Waddock said: "John was not only a Chairman but he was a mate of mine and that result was for my mate. I have known him just over two years and he has been a big influence on me since day one. He was a lovely, lovely man and had a fantastic sense of humour.

"We would talk everyday and he would always crack a joke and that was John. I feel for his family and I just wanted the win for John.

"It has been a difficult day and it was hard to keep emotions in check. I will always remember the night at Exeter City when the club got into the Football League and the cuddle and embrace after the match with John was something I will never forget.

"I am sure he is looking down on us as a proud man. I said at the time of the promotion that everybody has paid their part in getting this club into the Football League but he made a massive part. He will never be forgotten at this football club. When he walked into a room he would light it up with his sense of humour, He loved being amongst people. He was Mr Aldershot and that was a fantastic send off today."
