Aldershot Town began the match in comfortable fashion and triallists Kai Bichard, Jordan Wilson and Ashley Mitchell linked well to create the first real threat of the game on the five-minute mark when some great interlinking passes found Gary Frewen on the halfway line.

Having collected the ball at his feet the young Irishman raced down the left flank in front of an empty South Stand and delivered a perfect ball which found Lauren Maxwell charging towards the edge of the penalty area, but just as he hit a first time effort, Aaron Walters intercepted the player and sent him crashing to the ground and Maxwell's shot went wide of the upright.

After a short delay for treatment, QPR upped their efforts and it wasn't long before they started to cause problems.

With Angelo Balanta having picked the ball up midway inside the Shots' half, he began a darting run towards the Shots' penalty area but seeing Josh Parker in a better position, he threaded the ball through to his team-mate which he picked up just inside the penalty area, but as he unleashed his powerful effort, Ben Hutchings managed to get himself in front of the ball and deflected it away from danger.
