Aldershot Town Reserves vs Crawley Town Reserves

Last updated : 29 March 2011 By Mike Wray

Reserve team football returns to the EBB Stadium on Wednesday afternoon as Conference leaders Crawley Town make the short trip to north Hampshire.

With a run of three home fixtures in a row, there will be ample opportunity for the fringe players to keep up their match fitness while showing Dean Holdsworth and Matthew Bishop why they should be given their opportunity in the first team and speaking to the Premium Shots following the latest training session Holdsworth expressed his thoughts on those players knocking at the door of the first team: ”I’ve got to admit that these boys have been fantastic,” he told the Premium Shots

”There really is a good team spirit here and good competition for places so I’ll give them their due, they’re earning it.

”The lads are hungry for success and that’s winning football matches. We had a chat after training today and I’ve got to say that I have full respect for these players and those who have found themselves on the peripheral because the team are winning and it does pick itself sometimes, but we’ve seen players like Damian Spencer giving a good account of himself when he does come on and we’ve got to look at him starting at some point and the good thing about it is, is the bench is very strong at the moment.

”I’m going to give some of the players 90 minutes against Crawley as they’ve been missing that and it will do them good and we’ll watch them.

”I think that in all honesty, the seven games this month has left some needing a rest so we’ll let the others have a couple of days' rest and get their legs stretched and get ready for Southend on Saturday."
