The Shots looked threatening during the first 15 minutes using the width of the pitch but the Dons back four of Steve Sanson, Devon Williams, Nathan Koo-Boothe and Sam Page managed to soak up the early pressure well and it was a full quarter of an hour before the visitors began their fight-back.
Serge Makofo managed a great cross which was met by Malvin Kamara who cracked the ball towards the Shots net from all of twenty yards out. Andy Glasspool in the Shots net made a fantastic save, tipping the ball onto the crossbar and out to safety.
The Dons made two changes at half time – bringing Gary Smith and Julien Hornuss in an attempt of their own to use the width of the pitch to better effect and it only took two minutes before Nicky Rizzo managed cross the ball to Smith who smacked an effort – again from twenty yards into the corner of the net.
This spurred the Shots into a more determined effort and they held possession for long periods and forced a fine double save out of Scott Bevan in the visitors goal but they failed to break down the strong Dons defence.
The match was put beyond the Shots reach on eighty-six minutes when Rizzo made a text-book low pass to Hornuss who slotted a relaxed finish past Glasspool who had had a good game overall.
