The hosts made the early running and on the quarter hour, a defence splitting ball from Reece Connolly saw Adam Mekki comfortably lose his marker, and drill the ball past Joe Day only for the linesman to rule the 'goal' offside by the narrowest of margins. Minutes later Connolly connected with a Craig Castle cross that the visiting stopper collected with some ease. Again Mekki found space behind the Diamonds back line as he connected with Josh Pearson's through ball, but was thwarted by a late challenge from Sean Calcott.
The visitors had not troubled the Shots defence until the 33rd minute when their first corner was swung in from the left, and as has happened so many times before, the ball ended up in the back of the net, courtesy of Adam Sharpe's head. In added time, Lewis Halford tested Matt Peglar from 25 yards after the Shots defence had needlessly given the ball away.
