Shots Youth completed their 2008 fixtures with a well deserved win against visitors Dagenham & Redbridge at the Military Stadium. In the opening half hour visiting keeper Burbridge did more than enough to earn his seat on the bus home with his goal bombarded with shots from Blackwood, Percival, Pearson and Connolly. Crosses too rained in from both wide midfielders and their supporting full backs, Casey and Smith. Cox and Huggins controlled the centre of midfield and home keeper Peglar was hardly troubled by the visitors front pair.
After the break and a goal-less first period, Cox opened up the visiting defence and tested Burbridge yet again from 20 yards. It was only a matter of time before the hosts opened their account and on 63 minutes following a throw from Casey on the left, Pearson checked his marker and released a blistering shot from 25 yards that whistled over Burbridge for 1-0.
Shots replaced Blackwood with Pilgrim and a double substitution for the Daggers on 68 minutes momentarily gave them the initiative. However following a cross from Casey only three minutes later, the hosts were two up when Connolly struck home from close range. The final ten minutes of play saw the visitors come close twice through Cooper and Abioye but the head of Connolly and a goal-line clearance from Scott kept a clean sheet for the home side.
2009 fixtures start with a visit to Southend United on 10th January.
