The first half saw the home side dominate for long periods, with The Shots often playing like 'rabbits in the headlights' as the physically bigger Dagenham side peppered their goal with chance after chance going wide, over the bar or blocked by the busy Matt Pegler between the sticks. On 37 minutes Shots had their first goal-bound effort with a 25 yard volley from Carlton Cox. This coincided with a tactical switch to 4-5-1 by dropping Reece Connolly into a three man central midfield. From there onwards, Shots gained control of the game and in the second period, and with the slope advantage, created several excellent goal-scoring opportunities.

Speaking after the match the Daggers boss Robbie Garvey told his clubs official website, "The players looked quite nervous at the start of the match but created several chances, which was pleasing. The opposition changed the formation after half time to try and combat us but the game opened up. We could have taken a couple of chances but a 0-0 draw was a fair result."
He summed his sides performace up by saying, "It was a very good performance by the boys and a good start to the league campaign."
