Shots Under-19s bowed out of the Hampshire Fllodlit Cup on Wednesday, losing to Totton in the Quarter Final
Shots struggled against AFC Totton as the visitors showed more desire than their hosts over the ninety minutes.
On five minutes Totton were presented with a goal due to a defensive mix-up and on the half hour their lead increased when a well placed free kick from 30 yards hit the back of the net whilst the Shots were still organising their defence. For the Shots, Harrison spurned a good scoring opportunity, whilst the visiting keeper twice saved well at the feet of Simmonds.
HALF TIME SHOTS 0 TOTTON 2
Five minutes into the second half, a snap shot from 20 yards surprised Dukes in the Shots goal, giving the visitors a 3-0 lead, which was further increased on 70 minutes after Shots conceded possession with ease.
Between the second half goals Totton were reduced to ten players after a dismissal for violent conduct. After 75 minutes Shots made three substitutions and immediately began to play with a desire apparently lacking earlier in the game. Pickett hit the right hand post with the keeper well beaten and Benham twice shot but just missed the target.
On 85 mins Phillips linked with Thripp and reduced the deficit with a well taken goal from close range. On 88 minutes, Connelly was brought down after a darting run into the penalty area and Simmonds despatched the spot kick. Shots finished the game the strongest but it was too little too late as Totton progress to the semi-finals.
