Oxford took the game to the Shots and were using the width of the pitch well and a number of crosses were saved by Calder. The Shots were reduced to counter-attacking and when the ball was spread wide the Shots where unable to get bodies into the box.
After a dogged rearguard action by the Shots defence for 21 minutes, the deadlock was broken. The ball was played out to the left, Grover was caught out of position, Coles held the Oxford city striker up but she managed to turn her and fire over Calder.
The Shots reacted by putting pressure on Oxford from the re start and came close with a number of efforts. The Shots finally got back on level terms on 31 minutes, when the ball was played through the midfield to McDonald, who out paced the Oxford defender to fire past the Oxford goalkeeper.
In the second half Oxford pressed for the second goal, Calder producing a number of saves to keep the Shots level. A long ball from Calder nearly caught the Oxford defence out, with McDonald racing clear but firing wide.
On 67 minutes, the Shots took a surprise lead. The ball was worked wide, Hann crossed into the area, and Ireland was there to head past the keeper.
This made Oxford push forward in numbers and tested Calder with a number of shots which she dealt with. After 72 minutes the scores were level, when the Shots midfield lost the ball, Oxford spread the ball wide and crossed to the un-marked player in the box, who dispatched her shot past Calder.
Oxford where pressing for the winning goal, but still found a stubborn defence to break down. As the game drifted to a close, all the Shots efforts where undone, the ball found a Oxford player who managed to kept her Shots marker at bay, and let a unstoppable shot fly into the right corner upright.
