From the off, the game was being played at a blistering pace. The Shots started to construct a number of chances, but the final ball was just being over-hit. Launton also had a couple of chances which was cleared by the defence.
On 15 minutes, the first goal came and it went to Launton. Launton won a free kick and took it quickly catching the Shots out of position. The ball was played quickly down the right, the Launton player cut inside and fired into the roof of the net. On 21 minutes, a Launton effort cannoned off the bar, before the rebound was ruled offside.
On 23 minutes, the Shots were back in the game. The ball was strung together in one-touch passing fashion and laid in for Nicky Moore to whip her shot past the Launton keeper 1-1. This settled the Shots, and soon they came close to going in front with shots from Hann and Wallman narrowly going wide.
On 33 minutes the goal came, and once again Wallman and Moore gave the Launton defence problems. Moore's shot was saved, but she won the ball back, laid it back to Wallman who fired past an unsighted keeper. As half-time approached, the Shots again were caught out, the ball wasn't cleared in the midfield area, and the ball was slipped through for the Launton attacker to hit the back of the net.
Just 25 seconds after the half time break and the Shots were caught napping and the Launton player put in a shot-cum-cross which sailed into the net.
This spurred the Shots on, and again started to win the midfield battle and make the space count. Moore got the Shots back on level terms, when a ball from the midfield was played through, and as the keeper closed her down, she toe-poked the ball towards the goal. As the ball rolled goal-bound, a Launton defender attempted to clear the ball, but could only watch as her clearance cannoned off the inside of the post and into the net.
With a couple of fresh players on in North and Hull, the gaps in the Launton defence started to appear. After a corner was won the ball bounced in the area and Laura Hann nodded in the loose ball.
The ball was being played around the midfield with ease as Shephard, Wallman and Hann had a number of shots go wide. On 60 minutes the ever-reliable Laura Wallman pounced again. The ball again was slipped through from the midfield; Wallman lost her marker, saw the keeper off her line and cheekily chipped the ball into the far corner.
The shots continued to press in Launton's half, but couldn't make any of the chances count.
Andy's Analysis
"Wow! A great game for the neutral, some great football played and some great goals scored. We played in patches and didn't really get going till late in the second half. A number of returning players staked a claim to make the starting 11 and I still have a couple players to get involved yet - their time will come. There are still things to work on, but nevertheless a very good performance by the girls."
