Aldershot Town LFC 0 Wycombe Wanderers 0

It was one of those weird weeks for Aldershot Town Football Club. The men's first team manager Gary Waddock left the club to join Wycombe Wanderers, whilst Aldershot Town Ladies took on Wycombe Wanderers Ladies at Farnborough Gate.

Whilst Waddock's Wanderers pulled off a draw in the dying minutes on Saturday, would Andy Liddicott's Ladies go one better?

The Shots were missing the lively Tracy Marlow, along with the continued absence Stacey Ireland, however were able to welcome back Amber Marsh from the Army on leave, who took a place on the bench.

In the first half both sides tested each other, The Shots starting the better and forcing a couple of early corners that were cleared by Wycombe.

Wycombe swamped the midfield but were reduced to a number of long range shots that were dealt by Lesley Hubbard and the solid-looking Tara Coles and Hannah Grover in the heart of defence.

The first real chance came around half-an-hour into the game. Ferguson raced onto a ball played through from the midfield. Neck and neck with her marker, she managed to get the shot on target, only to see the Wycombe keeper make a double-handed tip over the bar.

In the second half the game became more open and both teams started to press. Nicky Moore was coming into the game on the right hand side and forced a number of corners, which were comfortably dealt with by the Wycombe defence. At the other end however, Moore up-ended a Wycombe player right on the 'D' of the penalty area, and the referee duly awarded the free kick with little complaint. From the resulting free kick Hubbard tipped the ball over the bar.

As the game came stretched, Laura Wallman and Jade Ferguson nearly created a move to open up the scoring, but the Wycombe keeper bravely blocked her shot.

Again Wycombe pressed and caught the left hand side of the Shots sleeping, Grover came across to cover, but the Wycombe player got her shot in and hit the top of the Shots cross bar.

In the final minutes, Nicky Hoblyn (having come on to replaced an injured Nicky Moore) created enough space to have a shot which beat the keeper, but ended up being a fraction of an inch too high ' to the despair of the home team and crowd.

Andy's Analysis:
"The girls faces after the match said it all - we were guilty of not taking our chances today and deep down I feel they knew they could have done better in front of goal.

"We were a little scrappy in the first half and then seemed to settle, it was a good battling game and you will always get that between The Shots and the Wanderers.

"We can start to concentrate on our FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round game against Old Actonians at the EBB stadium next week. It will be a nice distraction from the league."

Aldershot Town Ladies next opponents are Old Actonians of the London & South East Premier League in the FA Women's Cup Third Qualifying Round.

Kick-off is 2pm at the EBB Stadium, season ticket holders are admitted free and everyone else is admitted for just £1 with programmes at 50p each.
