Aldershot Town LFC 3 Old Actonians 5

Playing for a place in the First Round of the FA Womens Cup, The Shots went into the match without first choice keeper Lesley Hubbard who was on holiday, giving youngster Gemma Twine her first start of the season.

The Shots started the better and forced Old Actonians onto the back foot. Nikki Moore and Grace Irvine started to use the space well behind the full backs and a number of crosses went begging.

On 15 minutes, The Shots opened the scoring. After some sustained pressure another corner was won and Irvine's corner was swung nicely in for Sian Houghton to head into the back of the net.

This goal opened up the game and from the kick off Old Actonians equalised with a sweetly hit shot which sailed into the top corner of the Shots goal.

Five-minutes later, and The Shots fell behind when the ball wasn't cleared. The Actonians player fed the ball through The Shots defence and the outrushing Twine could only watch as the ball rolled into the back of the net.

At the other end The Shots were pressing for the equaliser and were finally rewarded with a well-worked goal. The ball bounced up but Emma North managed to control it and then feed it to Tracy Marlow, whose first time cross was excellently dispatched passed the keeper by Laura Wallman.

Just before half-time the visitors regained their lead, when the ball was sent into the box, Irvine tried to control it, but only managed to divert it passed Twine and into the net.

Half Time: Aldershot Town 2 Old Actonians 3

In the second-half The Shots started to press. Moore and Wallman made way for Jade Ferguson and Nicky Hoblyn [pictured top], and for the second FA Cup game running, Ferguson scored within a few minutes of coming on. Tara Coles' brilliantly executed free kick bounced over the defender and Ferguson timed her run to place the ball in the net with 18-minutes letf to play.

But Old Actonians weren't finished and as The Shots went searching for that winning goal, they left gaps that the visitors exploited. The visitors went further ahead when somehow two visiting players were allowed to play on from an offside position. They even hesitated to see if they were onside or not, and when no flag was raised, they continued before firing past Twine.

The crowd and Aldershot bench were clearly not happy, and the misery was compounded when the referee sent assistant manager Jamie Woodfield to the stands for his protests.

As The Shots pushed, Caz Shephard weaved her way through the visitors, her goal bound shot struck the hand of the defender, but claims for a penalty were waved away. Shephard again had a 20-yard strike hit the cross bar, and in the final minute Old Actionians broke free to wrap the game up.

In stoppage time, there was a sickening collision between midfielders Shephard and Hoblyn. Whilst the former was ok, the latter appeared very dazed, and was replaced by Laura Funnell and was later taken to Frimley Park Hospital as a precaution after collapsing at the end of the game with concussion.

Final Score: Aldershot Town 3 Old Actonians 5

Andy's Analysis:
'We enjoyed a good run in this year's FA Cup with some great games here at the EBB Stadium.

"I was a little disappointed the way it ended today, I have viewed the video of the game and how the two opposition players were allowed to play on from a offside position I will never know, but when your luck runs out there not much you can do.

"I was pleased with how we played in the second half and we could have been in the lead if the chances had gone in.

"A special thanks for all the staff at the club who made it really great for the girls while we had the chance to play at the EBB Stadium."

Northy's Notes:
"We had never played Old Actonians before and knew very little about them.

They were a very physical team but once again we were able to match that. I think the two teams were actually very similar in that we both wanted to get the ball down and play it around rather than just play the long ball every time.

"With the score at 3-3 a very dubious goal was scored by the Actonians which made it difficult for us to come back in the dying minutes after having done so twice before.

"It was certainly an entertaining end to end game and one full of goals but I think the final score doesn't really tell the full story.

"So our FA Cup run has come to an end, I am very proud of each squad member ' our spirit and attitude has been great the whole way through. Of course we are gutted to be out but now I guess we can turn our attention back to the league and look to gain a few places towards the top of the table."
