Bisley Ladies 3 - 3 Aldershot Town Ladies

Last updated : 23 August 2008 By Stray Shots Team

The Shots, sporting a very young team, soon settled into the match. Neither team created any chances in the opening 10 minutes. In the opening spell of the game, the Shots had to change Stacey Ireland over with Amber Marsh after twisting her ankle.

The Shots started to stretch the game and after 20 minutes, opened the scoring through Laura Wallman. The ball was played out from the Bisley back, to their midfielder. On the slippery surface, the ball ran away from her, and Danni Shepherd managed to nip in and take the ball off her. Shepherd carried the ball into the midfield and passed out towards Penny Hull, who allowed the ball to run onto Nicky Moore. Moore took on the challenge and squared the ball for Laura Wallman to hit her shot high into the Bisley net.

This gave the Shots the confidence to stroke the ball around and push on for the second goal, which quickly came. A free kick was given for the goalkeeper handling outside of the area. Laura Hann, playing her first pre-season back from holiday, took the kick and floated the ball into the roof of the net.

Soon two became three, as the Bisley left back cleared the ball down the line, but only as far as Nikki Hargreaves, who read the situation and cut the ball out.

Hargreaves played the ball down the line to Moore, which a Bisley defender managed to block, only for the ball to fall nicely to Carys Potter. Potter (ex-Bisley) out-paced the defender and bore down on the Bisley goal, and as the Bisley defender went to challenge Potter, she played a ball across along the six-yard box, which found Laura Hann to place the ball into the net.

After half time Bisley took the game to the Shots. Bisley keeping the ball better got straight back into the match when a shot from outside the area flew high into the net.

The game became a midfield battle and Bisley always seem to have the extra player available, again another long-range effort caught the Shots out from outside the area to bring the score back to 3-2.

Bisley kept pressuring, but this allowed the game to become an end to end match. Just before the end Bisley duly leveled the game. A free kick outside the box went to the near post and the Bisley player met the ball before the Shots keeper, to make it 3-3.

Andy's Analysis

"What a great match, some of the football played tonight by both sides was of a very high quality. There was a few girls playing their first pre-season game and they settled into the team nicely, we were missing five senior players who will be back for the start of the season in a week's time. We've still got a bit to do on the training field and the main priority is to get the returning players' fitness levels up, which I know will do.

I am very happy with the squad we have of 22 players and myself and Jamie are looking forward to our first competitive match away to Henley in a weeks' time."
