Slough held this game in difficult conditions, following the shock death of their captain Becky Cancea ten days beforehand. Their league game the week before against Launton was postponed as a mark of respect and the match was preceded by an impeccably-observed minute's silence.
Caz Shephard stepped up to the starting XI, whilst Laura Funnell dropped to the bench as one of only two substitutes. Laura Wallman, Tracy Marlow and Julie Kurz were absent, whilst several Shots supporters were in attendance to cheer on the visitors.
The fixture started at a fast pace and both teams started to stretch the game wide. The Shots settled quickly into a rhythm and Jade Ferguson [pictured top] started to test the Slough defense with a number of well-timed runs with only the offside flag preventing the Shots top-scorer from opening the scoring early on.
Slough were reduced to a number of long-range efforts that the defence and Lesley Hubbard dealt with in their stride. The Shots forced a number of corners and the delivery eluded the on-rushing Shots players. One such corner saw Emma North [pictured bottom - on left] come inches from heading into the net.
As time wore on, the game started to heat up in the midfield with some strong challenges from both sides flying in. There were a few tackles that were erring towards recklessness, but the referee refused to show a yellow card and resorted to speaking with the players in order to keep a lid on things.
On 36 minutes the Shots finally edged in front. The ball was fed out wide and Sian Houghton [pictured bottom - in middle] released the lively Ferguson who outpaced her marker to fire past the Slough keeper.

At half-time, Nicole Hoblyn was substituted for Funnell, and the left sided player had an immediate impact in getting behind the Slough defence, and sent in some great crosses that caused Slough a number of problems.
Slough were getting their game together, but the Shots defence and midfield were there in numbers, quickly to clean up and counter on Slough. Funnell then nearly scored a cracker, when Ferguson chipped the ball over her marker, for the substitute to run onto and unleash a shot across the goal from 18 yards towards the top right corner, only to see the Slough keeper fingertip over the crossbar.
After a number of Shots chances went begging, Ferguson doubled the visitors advantage on 58 minutes, as the ball was won in the midfield and sent over the Slough defence. Ferguson gave chase, the goalkeeper hesitated, allowing Ferguson just to get her shot in before the keeper dived at her feet. The ball spun free, Ferguson reacted quickest and managed to get off the ground before the retreating defender to slot into an empty net for her eighth goal of the season.
Slough started to push on and the Shots defence was again tested. On the hour mark, the Shots let Slough back into the game. The ball wasn't cleared out on the right and was played inside by the Slough player who saw Hubbard off her line and floated the ball over the top into an empty net.
Gemma Twine replaced Nikki Moore and the youngster nearly increased the lead, when she outpaced the Slough defence but she just fired wide of the onrushing keeper.
