Luck has not been on the Robins' side so far this season and that showed no signs of changing on Saturday.
They created plenty of chances but were ultimately left frustrated - both by themselves and the stubborn Shots defence.
Had last season's top scorer Colin Little been in the side, maybe things would have been different, but with or without their talismanic striker Alty need to regain their confidence and get points on the board soon.
Twice Aldershot struck against the run of play at Moss Lane to cruelly deny them a chance to break their Blue Square Premier duck.
It could have been so different.
Despite an improved performance in their 1-1 draw at Stafford on Monday, Graham Heathcote again performed major surgery on his side in a bid to cure their recent problems.
Stuart Coburn, Karl Munroe and Joe O'Neill all came back into the side, while new signing Carlos Logan made his debut on the left wing.
And the former Manchester City youngster immediately made his presence felt.
Logan's pace and trickery gave the visiting defence plenty to think about and, on 13 minutes, he sent a superb half volley narrowly over the bar.
Alty continued to press and both Munroe and Jake Sedgemore had chances to open the scoring.
But, as has so often been the case this season, the Robins contrived to make life difficult for themselves.
A slight lapse in concentration was all it took. Aldershot were handed an easy route upfield and Jonny Dixon fired home from 20 yards to land a sucker punch flush on the shellshocked hosts.
Galvanised by their breakthrough, the visitors became far more competitive and Stuart Coburn was called into action to deny Scott Davies.
Lewis Chalmers, however, was slightly over-enthusiastic on his return to Moss Lane and received a booking for his troubles just after the half-hour mark.
Both sides wasted golden chances as the half came to a close.
Warren Peyton was unable to keep his composure when Chris Senior's low cross reached him in front of goal, failing to even make contact, while Rob Elvins fired badly wide for Aldershot after going clean through on goal.
The sloppiness then spread to the opposite end of the pitch as Aldershot goalkeeper Nikki Bull's howler handed Alty a way back into the game.
Bull made a complete hash of Steve Aspinall's long free kick, dropping the ball virtually on his own goalline and allowing a gleeful Darren Tinson to stab home.
But despite taking the game to their opponents after the break, Alty were unable to get that all important second goal.
Peyton's long range bullet was stopped by Bull, before Senior blasted a decent chance over the bar.
The loss of Logan to injury didn't even deter the home side, as Senior pounced once again, this time denied by an acrobatic save by Bull.
As chances went begging though, Aldershot blindsided Alty once again.
A sudden flurry of activity culminated as Louie Soares converted Ben Harding's dangerous cross 13 minutes from time.
Alty showed strong character to keep up the pressure on Aldershot's goal but aside from a late penalty appeal, they never truly worried the visitors.
