Atletico Madrid Fans Go Green And Gold

Reports on the number of supporters involved ranged from seven hundred to three thousand, but what is certain is that tolerance amongst fans for the regime of Enrique Cerezo and Miguel Angel Gil Marin has finally evaporated. Organised by the group Atletico Fans for Change, and supported by Asociacion Senales de Humo (Atletico's Supporters Trust, members of the Federacion de Accionistas y Socios del Futbol Espanol, an umbrella organisation for supporters' trusts), the demonstration saw fans carry green and gold scarfs, echoing the ongoing anti-Glazer campaign being conducted by supporters of Manchester United.

Under a slogan of 'Atleti for its members', the fans demanded that Cerezo and Gil Marin reconstitute ownership of the club. This follows rulings from the Spanish Supreme Court and Provincial Court of Madrid that their ownership is structured illegally.

The fans marched peacefully towards the Vicente Calderon stadium, and once inside, many banners condemning the Cerezo/Gil administration could be seen. Some of these were forcibly removed by security personnel, but it is clear that these supporters have decided to campaign for change at their club; and that silencing them will be an impossible task.
