Crawley New Boy: We'll Win Cup Replay

Loan winger Mustapha Carayol is out to prove to his mates that Crawley can finish the FA Cup job against Aldershot.

Carayol scored on his debut after joining for a month from MK Dons as Reds held the high-flying Shots to a 1-1 draw in the fourth qualifying round on Saturday.

The 19-year-old admits he was surprised with how well his new side played against the Conference premier title contenders.

And he is confidence they can clinch a place in the first round proper in the replay at the Rec tomorrow (Tue).

He said: "I thought they (Aldershot) would be better than they were. I don't know if we played well but I was being told all week that we were going to get hammered.

"All my friends were calling me saying we were going to get battered but we should have battered them.

"We did the business on the pitch, it was just unlucky that some slack defending cost us, and we have definitely got a chance in the next game."

Carayol is determined to build on the promising start to his spell at Broadfield Stadium.

The Gambia-born wideman has made just two appearances for Dons following his summer move from Macclesfield and aims to use his time at Reds to help establish himself as a first team regular.

He said: "I've played a few times for MK this season in the Carling Cup and Johnstone's Paint Trophy but I've said that I can't be playing youth team and reserves all the time.

"I need to be playing the men's game because I'm still a first year pro and have got to get experience. I'm here for a month and I'm going to make good use of it."

Carayol turned down loan interest from a number of clubs to join Reds after playing against them in a training ground game last week.

He was thrown straight into action after midfielder Thomas Pinault was ruled out through illness and believes he will get better as he gains match fitness.

He said: "I had a few clubs interested but we played against Crawley and (Manager) Steve (Evans) asked me to come down and see how it goes.

"It has been good so far. There are a nice bunch of lads and there is a bit of banter in the dressing room.

"I got my start because one of the boys was sick and grabbed it. I thought I played pretty well but it was not the best game I've played this season.

"There should be more to come from me once I get my fitness and get used to playing at this level."

Reds, who are expected to be unchanged, beat Aldershot 1-0 away earlier in the season after playing for the last 20 minutes with ten men. They will face an away tie against either Stafford Rangers or Cambridge United if they win.

Evans and assistant boss Paul Raynor have been told they will not face disciplinary action by the Football Association after both were sent from the dug-out during a league game against Stafford.
