Grant has signed a three-year deal at Crewe after helping Aldershot win promotion from the Blue Square Premier to League Two.
And first-team coach Holland wants the 20-year-old winger to provide a creative spark he feels was missing form the Alex last season.
He explained: "Joel is just the type of player we didn't have last season and I'm delighted he has signed for us. He's quick and can use both feet, he runs at defenders and has an eye for goal.
"We hope he'll improve the team straight away, but he's only 20-years-old, so he may need time to settle."
Hammersmith-born Grant, a Jamaica international at under-20 and under-23 level, scored 10 goals in 61 games during two spells at Aldershot.
He joined them on loan from Watford in the 2006/07 season and then returned after being released by the Championship club.
After sealing his move to Crewe, Grant pledged to show his attacking prowess - but admitted there will be more pressure on him to perform in League One.
He explained: "I like the way Crewe work and how they bring on players. It all feels really homely.
"I'm delighted about the move and I hope to do my best here.
"My main strength is attacking, I hope I can get some goals for the team and be a big threat in the attacking dimension.
"The level of football is going to be a lot different to Aldershot and I think there is going to be a lot more expectation for me to perform here. Being bought is a bit of pressure, but pressure I'm looking forward to."
