After two successive defeats the Shrimps returned to winning ways thanks to two wonder goals and a superb performance from goalkeeper Steven Drench.
The points looked secure when Morecambe blasted their way into an early two goal lead with wonder strikes from Matty Blinkhorn and Neil Sorvel. But they were made to battle to the death in the face of a spirited fight back from the Shots which saw them score one late goal and come close to another on several occasions.
The game could not have started any better for Morecambe as Blinkhorn scored his second goal for the Shrimps with a superb strike on eight minutes. The on-loan striker let fly with a dipping volley from 30 yards which flew past Nikki Bull's right hand and curled into the top right hand corner.
Garry Hunter, in the side for the rested Craig Stanley, then came close with a volley that just cleared the crossbar before Neil Sorvel added to Morecambe's lead with a stunning strike of his own to put the Shrimps 2-0 up on 19 minutes.
The play then swung from end to end with a shell shocked Shots fighting back strongly.
Kirk Hudson saw a shot deflected inches wide of the left hand post and Drench saved superbly from John Grant who looked set to score after running on to Darren Barnard's excellent through ball.
Dean Smith and Jonny Dixon both fired efforts wide before Grant came close again with a shot that beat Drench low to his right but came back off the post.
At the other end Morecambe had chances of their own. Wayne Curtis thought he had made it 3-0 but was foiled by an offside flag. Garry Thompson forced Bull into a good save low to his right before save and Chris Blackburn volleying onto the roof of the net.
The second half belonged to the Shots who peppered the Morecambe goal from the restart when Drench made possibly the save of the season to tip Dixon's dipping volley on to the crossbar.
Drench then saved well from Molesley and a close range Grant header but was finally beaten seven minutes from time when Kirk Hudson drilled a shot through his legs to set up a nervous finale.
Danny Carlton wasted a glorious chance to seal the points when he missed the target with only Bull to beat and he was almost made to pay when Grant's snapshot from 25 yards shaved the left hand post with Drench beaten.
In the end the Shrimps held on to their lead to take three vital points which saw them climb back to fourth in the table.
