Orient Boss Left Happy With Yet Another Win

The Epping Forest Guardian has reported that the O's put in a poor first half display again, but came out a better side in the second half and Ryan Jarvis grabbed the only goal of the game.

And Ling felt that with no major injuries in the match, it was another good run out for the O's, against an Aldershot side who have just been promoted to League Two.

He said: "I felt that the goal was the best part of the game for us, I thought in the first half they (Aldershot) were the best side and in the second half we controlled it without really hurting them.".

"I don't want to make excuses for the players, but it's a hot day out there, three hours in the car, and everything pre-game wasn't right."

"It wasn't scintillating, but I'm always pleased with a scrappy one-nil win without any major injuries again which is important to us."

Ling brought on a number of youngsters in the second half and he believed that they gave his side the energy that they needed to win the game.

He added: "It was probably our most senior side in the first half, but we then made five changes with a few of the not so young players. then the last change was all the youngsters and we then had a little bit of energy about us and that is what created the goal.

"Solomon Shields has been effective all pre-season and Loick Pires to be fair to them. now they've got to learn when we get that one-nil in front how to go and close the game down because you want to win football games, doesn't matter when it is and that is what they've got to learn." And Ling also seemed please with Ryan Jarvis' contribution.

He added: "It was the second goal for Ryan in pre-season and that is always important for a striker.

"He tucked away well and we know what Ryan is all about, he came here on loan the season before last and banged them in pretty regular for us, but strikers always like to get a goal and make that knack a good habit."

Alton Thelwell made his first O's appearance of pre-season and Ling feels that he still needs more match practise before the new season.

He continued: "Alton (Thelwell) looked like he needed the 45 and he's going to need some game time before that first gmatch of the season, if he's going to be available to us."
