Shaymen Dealt Hammer Blow On Eve Of Shots Match

The pacy frontman had been hoping that rest would cure the Achilles problem that has kept him sidelined for the past three and a half weeks.

But he broke down on his return to training and will not be back before the New Year.

"It is a major, major blow for us and more importantly for the player," said boss Chris Wilder.

"He rested it, then tried to resume training and suffered a setback.

"They have decided to operate and he will be out for two and a half months minimum."

But there was some better news on the injury front ahead of tomorrow's Blue Square Premier clash at the Recreation Ground.

Cortez Belle is likely to feature after missing Tuesday's 0-0 home draw with a sore ankle and Darryn Stamp will start after his second half appearance against Grays.

Stamp is likely to come in for Dean Oliver, the youngster on loan from Sheffield United, who he replaced at half time in midweek.

"Darryn came on and did better than he has been," said Wilder. "That is the standard he should be aiming at.

"I have spoken to him about it and I thought he could give us a bit more and he did on Tuesday.

"It has been difficult for Dean Oliver and he will possibly come out of the side.

"With the 45 minutes under his belt from Tuesday, Darryn will definitely start."

Town will be up against an Aldershot side that has started the season well, won each of its last five home games and is currently third in the table.

But Wilder, whose squad includes loanee Simon Heslop, is upbeat about his side's chances despite an away record that shows one win in nine games.

"We have proved on our travels this season that we can go anywhere and play well," he said.

"We just need to turn decent performances into results.

"We have played like Grays did at the Shay on Tuesday night but been punished in the last 10 minutes.

"We will create chances and hopefully we are big enough to take them."

The return of Belle would allow Wilder to return to the three centre backs system he employed in each of the last two away games at Cambridge and Kidderminster.

Aldershot's former Town striker John Grant is a doubt having missed the last three matches with tendonitis.
