He told the site, "I think all the lads are relieved that the first game is over with.
"It's been such a massive build-up for the club, with a new board, new management and a new team.
"It was a long wait for the first league game, especially with it being Sunday rather than last Saturday.
"There were high expectations, and I think we were all a bit too much on tenterhooks, especially in the first half.
"We know we can get a lot better, but we can certainly take a lot from it. We've got something to build on."
It was during his time at Aldershot that Sills - he scored 46 goals in 102 starts for the Shots from 2003-2006 - first met his new boss Paul Buckle.
"We spent a pre-season together, before Paul left (for Weymouth), but during that time he gave me a bit of advice which was a big help and has always stuck with me," he recalled.
"He said that, whatever else happened, as long as you worked as hard as you could, the fans would always get behind you.
"At the time Aldershot fans had a reputation for being a bit fickle, but I followed Paul's advice and I never found them fickle at all.
"It will be nice to go back and see a lot of people who I haven't seen for a while and who gave me such a great time there.
"If I manage to pop up with a goal, it would be fantastic.
"But the most important thing is for us to go there and get three points - that's all that counts."
