What The Papers Say: Let's Stick Together

The Macclesfield's travelling support who witnessed the narrow defeat at Brentford applauded the players' efforts at the final whistle, a move the manager says his players appreciate.

"We were very unfortunate to lose at Brentford," said Alexander. "It's a difficult place to get a result but we played well, we just need that bit of luck."

Renowned for putting his faith in young players, the Silkmen's manager is asking for support as they continue learning their trade.

"The fans are a good gauge of how you have done and ours showed their appreciation at the end and the players need to take that into the game against Aldershot.

"I think the supporters have a right to moan, I fully understand that. It's difficult to get behind the team when we've let in six and four goals in the last two home games. I know these young players are still learning but nobody likes to be shouted at, whether they're young lads or experienced veterans. We've got to pull together and keep going. We were defensively sound last season and in parts this season too. We're getting better, keep the faith. There are a lot of good signs, there's a long way to go and there will be a lot of ups and downs to come."

Alexander is not surprised by the Shots' strong start in their first Football League season, and says his team will not take them likely come Saturday.

"The history of this league shows that a lot of teams who come up have gone up, or at least got into the play-offs. Aldershot are a big club in their neck of the woods and have got a good structure so it's no surprise how well they're doing."
