McEwan believes victory over John Still's men at their Victoria Road ground, which would cut the gap between the two sides to nine points, could prove pivotal.
Dagenham beat York 3-2 on their home ground in November, but McEwan believes his side have what it takes to come away with all three points and give themselves a chance of a title push.
"I'm looking forward to the game and we will be looking for a bit of revenge," McEwan told the York Press.
"They have got a good home record and we have got an excellent away record so it's got the makings of a very good game.
"They play with a lot of energy, set a high tempo and look to get the ball from the back to the front as quickly as possible.
"They also know what we are all about so it's a case of who functions and performs best on the day. Hopefully, it will be us.
"We are finding more space away from home where teams come at us and our players can hit them on the break with their pace.
"We need to be mentally and physically strong and, if we have those ingredients, there's enough ability in the team to get a result.
"They are 12 points ahead but maybe we can catch them up. We went there last season and beat them so now we will see whether this season's team can get a similar result."
The Minstermen boss also acknowledges the huge impact the York fans make on his side and is hoping they will be in full voice for Saturday's crucial clash.
He added: "Dagenham normally get gates of 1,200 or 1,300. We might take 500 or 600 fans to this big game and that could play an important part.
"The backing and vocal support gives me and the players a big lift."
