Former Newcastle United duo Paul Brayson and Stuart Elliot have verbally agreed deals with the Minstermen and McEwan is just waiting on the duo to return from their respective holidays.
Striker Brayson had a trial at KitKat Crescent in the summer of 2004 but failed to earn a contract from then manager Chris Brass.
The 29-year-old has since been a regular scorer for Northwich Victoria and finished as their leading marksman last season with 12 goals.
Brayson previously fired the club to an immediate return to the Nationwide Conference after claiming 32 goals in 51 appearances in Conference North.
Vics' skipper and midfielder Elliott (29) similarly began his career at St James' Park, and has also represented Plymouth Argyle, Darlington, Carlisle United and Exeter City.
"They are coming into the club," McEwan told The Press.
"It's just a matter of rubberstamping their moves and we are waiting for them to return from holiday to sign their contracts."
McEwan has also admitted that he could make a move for Tyrone Thompson after the free agent turned down a deal at Halifax Town.
"We've not shown any interest in him at all but he's not a bad player and we are looking for midfield players all the time," McEwan said.
"He's suddenly popped up as being available and is a local boy as well."
