Oxford United manager Jim Smith is considering making a swoop for left-back Alex Jeannin following his release by League Two side Hereford United.

The 29-year-old was told by the Bulls in April his contarct would not be renewed after making more than 50 appearances and scoring three goals.

Frenchman Jeannin started his career in England in 2000/01 when Darlington signed him from Troyes AC before he went on to play for Exeter City, Bristol Rovers and Hereford.

Smith is keen to add a specialist left-back to his squad and could see the experienced 6ft defender as an ideal acquisition following last week's capture of former Airdrie striker Gary Twigg
