Conference News: Yems Taking It On The Chin

Yems has been removed from his role as caretaker-manager, a job he performed admirably along with players Ben Judge and David Woozley to keep the Red Devils up.

It was a thankless task that he undertook following the sacking of John Hollins and Alan Lewer at the end of October but he helped Crawley to avoid relegation despite a 10-point penalty deduction.

As was the case with Hollins' departure last year, the decision to part ways with Yems seemed very harsh, but he has taken the news in the best way he possible could.

"There was nothing I could do to change anything," he told BBC Southern Counties Radio. "I'm backing the board as they have put lots of money into the club.

"The chairman knows who he wants to take things on, so good luck to him and good luck to the new manager."

Yems was, nevertheless, devastated by the decision despite his best attempt to hide his obvious disappointment to be leaving.

He added: "To say I'm bitterly disappointed is an understatement. Football's crazy. I look back and think 'what more could I have done?"
