L2 News: Lee and Somner Released By County

Last updated : 02 June 2008 By Stray Shots Team

Notts County strikers Jason Lee and Lawrie Dudfield are among eight players being released by the club. Lee will forever be in the memory of Shots fans as the man who nearly signed, only to turn his back at the last minute. He will now miss the chance of playing against the Shots.

Boss Ian McParland told BBC Radio Nottingham: "Jason has been the perfect professional. He trains as if he's 18 and when he plays he gives his all.

"That's why he's stayed in the game until 36. Some younger players should look at how he conducts himself."

The list of departures also includes Austin McCann, Lee Canoville, Andy Parkinson, Gary Silk and another ex - Shot, Matt Somner.

On County's official retained list, only keeper Kevin Pilkington, defender Mike Edwards and youngster Stef Frost, of the players due to be out of contract, have been offered new deals.

"You want to freshen things up and juggle things about," said McParland. "But it's not a nice time of year. I've been in with managers when they've told me I've not had a job. It's a cruel game."
