This has been corrected by the board members pumping in funding but as the club progressed to the Football League, the cost base has grown substantially with increased gate and commercial revenues failing to fund the deficit. Simply put the current position of the club was unsustainable.
In an ideal world the club would have made more of its current ground Christie Park but with little scope existing for this to happen, the club decided that it needed to re-locate.
The sale of the current ground and surrounding land generated funds which have been ploughed back into the building of the clubs new stadium and facilities.
At the ground a range of commercial ventures such as bars; function rooms; dedicated catering facilities; and a hotel will enable the club to generate revenue all year round rather than just on match days. At the same time the new ground will provide better facilities and value for supporters on match days; new sponsorship and corporate revenues; and a fantastic opportunity to grow our highly successful Football in the Community programme.
