Bristol Rovers vs Aldershot Town

Last updated : 07 October 2010 By Mike Wray

Aldershot Town will look to put Saturday's disappointing League Two performance behind them on Tuesday evening when they travel west for their second Johnstone's Paint Trophy match of the season, hoping that the road to Wembley doesn't end prematurely in the city of Bristol.

Goals from Damian Spencer and Danny Hylton eased The Shots past the rather lacklustre challenge offered by Oxford United in the first round, but Paul Trollope's League One outfit are certain to offer a far sterner test this time round.

While both clubs will be mindful of the Trophy ruling that states that at least six players who featured in the previous match must be selected, both sides also have very important league 'derby' fixtures on the road this weekend - The Shots take on Oxford United while Rovers travel to Swindon so both managers will have selection issues to contemplate ahead of the tie.

Shots team news

Kevin Dillon was quick to criticise his team selection for Saturday's defeat at home against Cheltenham Town, focusing on making too many changes to the side that won at Plainmoor and with Jermaine McGlashan [pictured above right] being in inspired form, Dillon could well opt to start with the exciting winger.

The Shots have no injury worries ahead of the match but Dillon is likely to give several of the fringe players the opportunity of a run-out.

Shots from: Jamie Young, Ross Kitteridge, Ben Herd, Anthony Straker, Glen Little, Anthony Charles, Darren Jones, Jamie Vincent, Ben Harding, Luke Guttridge, John Halls, Danny Hylton, Marvin Morgan, Manny Panther, Jermaine McGlashan, Wade Small, Damian Spencer, Jack Randall, Reece Connolly, Marlon Jackson and Clayton Fortune.

The opposition

Speaking to his side's official website on Monday, Rovers manager Paul Trollope was hoping that his side will be able to use the match in order to build on Saturday's away victory against Huddersfield Town saying: "In previous years we've rested three or four players in the competition, but that will not be happening this year.

"It is a very important game for us, we want to keep the momentum going and build on Saturday's win. But first and foremost, we would like to progress in the competition.

"It served us very well three, four years ago, but we have been very disappointing since and we have not progressed past the early rounds.

"We want to get ourselves focused and ready and we are going to treat it like a league game.

"We are not taking them [Aldershot] lightly, they have got some real threats in their team, and will be looking to bounce back from Saturday's defeat [against Cheltenham Town]."

Chris Lines is the only absentee from the Pirates squad as he sits out a suspension having been booked for the fifth time at the weekend.

Rovers from: Mikkel Andersen, Mike Green, Carl Regan, Gary Sawyer, Danny Coles, James Tunnicliffe, Stuart Campbell, Will Hoskins, John Akinde, Darryl Duffy, Jeff Hughes, Wayne Brown, Byron Anthony, Dominic Blizzard, Jo Kuffour, Eliot Richards, Charles Reece, Harry Pell, Ben Swallow, Lamar Powell, Matt Groves, Mark Cooper, Ollie Clarke and Jack McKenna.
