Chesterfield vs Aldershot Town

Last updated : 03 February 2011 By Mike Wray

There’s another new ground to visit this coming Saturday as Aldershot Town make their first ever trip to the b2net Stadium where they’ll face Chesterfield who will be desperate to increase their lead at the top of the League Two table as the business end of the season gets underway.

With the Spireites having already recorded a 2-0 victory against The Shots this season, the players will be looking to provide more competitive opposition this time round and speaking to the Premium Shots striker Tim Sills said: ”We’re not going to fear them – we have to go there with the right mentality, believe that we can go there and come away with something – we’ve got two long trips coming up in the next week so we’ve got to get our focus to make sure we come back with some points and it will be a good test to see how far we’ve come in such a short space of time.”

The Shots enter the match in 16th place in League Two with 32 points from 26 games, while Chesterfield are top of the league with 54 points from 27 games.

Shots Team News

The predicted heavy rain won’t put a dampener on the Shots’ expectations ahead of the their clash against league leaders on Saturday afternoon and manager Dean Holdsworth said: ”It’s a great game for us to go in too. The spirit in our team has lifted and there’s lots of confidence around the group and the players are looking forwards to the test because we’re going in to the game as underdogs and anything from it would be a bonus but at the same time, we’re not going there to make up the numbers.”

Damian Spencer continues to train with The Shots but remains on loan with Eastbourne and will feature in their FA Trophy match against Guiseley while John Halls also continues his return to match fitness and is unlikely to feature. Jack Randall will be absent having joined Didcot Town on a months loan on Thursday while Holdsworth will have to wait to see how Wade Small is feeling ahead of the match, having been suffering from an upset stomach for the last seven days.

The Opposition

Chesterfield will be expecting a return of maximum points as they take on The Shots, and with a nine-game unbeaten run behind them, Manager of the Month nominee John Sheridan remained in positive, but cautious mood ahead of the match saying that he isn’t taking anything for granted.

”It doesn’t matter who you play, results in this division are very hard to predict,” he told the media this week.

”Aldershot have got one or two players, Wade Small’s there, and they can be a threat on their day.

”We’ll give them respect but we’re at home and we’ve got to win the game now.”

Dean Morgan (ankle) will be missing for the Spireites who are also waiting on the fitness of Jack Lester and Gregor Robertson (both hamstring) and Simon Ford (knee) however, Scott Boden is fit again following his ankle injury.
