Hereford United vs Aldershot Town

Gary Waddock takes his side to Edgar Street on Tuesday evening in a Johnstone's Paint (Football League) Trophy Second round tie.

After receiving a bye in the first round the boss will be aiming to progress to the quarter-final stage of the southern section. The last time an Aldershot side achieved that was in 1986/87 as Len Walker led the squad to the southern final where they were eventually eliminated by Bristol City over two legs.

A positive run in this competition can be extremely lucrative with a Wembley venue as the final and the boss is fully aware of the possibilities. He told 'The Shots', "There is a big prize at the end of this competition but we have a difficult tie in front of us."

The boss has confirmed that Andy Sandell and John Halls will continue training this week but the Edgar Street visit comes too soon. QPR loan signing Antonio German will be included in the squad.

"I will pick a team that I feel is capable of going to Hereford and getting a positive result. We played Hereford recently in the league and they have picked up with recent results. Our approach in the Setanta Shield in our Conference winning season worked well and I have said from day one that it is all about the squad and knowing that they are all prepared.

"Whatever side we pick will not weaken the side and there will be opportunities. This competition is important because there are financial possibilities too. Whatever side is selected will be strong."
