First Conference win now under his belt
Caretaker manager Martin Kuhl made two changes from Tuesday's starting line-up against Weymouth.

The fit again Ricky Newman replacing Karl Beckford, who dropped to the bench, and Louis Soares came in for Kirk Hudson, who was not included in the fifteen,

After a scrappy opening to the game, the first piece of action came in the twelfth minute. A Ryan Williams cross to the far post was met by John Grant at full stretch, but he only managed to turn it into the side netting.
Former Shot Ahmed Deen had the visitors' first chance, but he blazed his effort over from the edge of the 'D'.

On fifteen minutes John Grant set up Soares, but his fierce drive was well turned over by Bastock.

This was the first of a number of corners won by the Shots in this period, but they all came to nothing.

The deadlock was broken in the twenty fifth minute when the home side were awarded a penalty by referee Amy Rayner, on the advice of her linesman.

Darren Barnard had floated a free kick into the area from the Shots left, and after a bit of a scramble, the ball appeared to strike arm of a defender.

Barney stepped up to calmly send the keeper the wrong way, as his effort found the corner of the net.

Ten minutes later a long distance strike from Dean Smith flew wide of the upright.

Then after a surging midfield run from Molesley, he laid it off for Soares whose drilled effort was spilled by the keeper.

John Grant was on hand, but his effort rolled across the 6 yard box before being cleared to safety.

Half time: Shots 1 - St Albans 0

It took until the fifty ninth minute for the second half to come to life.

Another well flighted free kick from Darren Barnard was flicked on by Dixon from 7 yards out and Bastock was at full stretch to push it behind.

An excellent cross field pass from Williams then found Soares on the edge of the box. He cut inside before unleashing a well struck shot which was well blocked by a defender.

In the sixty third minute a cross came over from the Shots right but substitute Hastings couldn't direct his header on target.

Pritchard then replaced Dixon for the Shots.

The visitors then had two long range efforts at goal.

The first a 25 yarder from Seeby whistled just over. Then after slack play from Williams, who lost possession cheaply, Deen took the ball on before firing his effort well wide.

The game was over as a contest on seventy two minutes. An excellent through ball from Williams saw Grant outmuscle his defender before clipping the ball over the onrushing keeper and into the net.

Scott then replaced Newman and a short time later Khul used his final substitution, when Beckford came on for Soares.

In the eightieth minute a back header from Charles was short on pace. Hastings nipped in to lob Bully but, fortunately for the home side, it drifted just wide of the far post.

A ball was then neatly slipped through for Cracknell to run onto, but Bull was on his mettle and he came out quickly to block the effort.

Just before the end Pritchard sent Williams clear down the wing, and his measured cross was met by Scott, but his header lacked power and was easily claimed by Bastock.

A second successive three points for the Shots, but to continue their winning run they will surely have to up the ante for the visit of Exeter on Tuesday.
