What a difference three days makes.
From the celebrations at the Recreation Ground on Saturday, to the misery on Tuesday night, as Hereford United kept their 100% record against the Shots intact with five League wins out of five since the Shots joined the Conference, reports the Aldershot News.
Granted, it came through either a brilliant goal, or a fluke one depending on which side of the East Bank is asked, after just 25 seconds.
And while Aldershot might have done enough in the second half to warrant a point, without the ball in the back of the net, chances don't count for anything.
Boss Terry Brown is on a rollercoaster of emotions, revelling in the win on Saturday and back to being crumpled by defeat days later.
“I think it was the wrong result but I've told them they're not unlucky because we didn't have enough courage to get on the end of numerous balls into the box.
“We had enough balls in there to have won more than one game and we had enough of that second half to have battered their defence,” admitted Brown.
Despite the early goal, which came about due to naïve defending, the Shots kept their heads up and gave it their all in trying to come back.
“I was looking to hang on at 1-0 until half-time and we managed to do that, in a pretty poor first half performance, they ran the midfield as we didn't have the legs.
“The second half I was absolutely delighted with the effort. But I didn't get enough up front from my strike force because we had good chances. They had enough balls in there to make something out of it,” added Brown.
Despite claiming to have “one of the best strike forces in the Conference” just weeks ago, Brown is being forced to concede that Chris McPhee perhaps isn't the answer, with just two goals (including a penalty) in his 11 appearances while on loan from Championship side Brighton & Hove Albion.
Brown said: “I've asked my team where the goals are coming from. I'm absolutely gutted that no one had the courage to get on the end of one of the 20 or 30 crosses we had in there.
“We've got a boy from Brighton who's got to put his scoring boots on and we've got several players that need to make more of a contribution to the outcome of the game.
“We showed a lot of courage and conviction by the work-rate we put in but I'm asking my midfield players and my forwards to be the difference between the two sides and we didn't have that today.”
The Bulls started as they meant to go on, literally, as straight from the kick-off they won a corner.
As the Shots defence worked out what to do, they left Andy Ferrell and Danny Carey-Bertram totally unmarked to play a short corner.
Ferrell duly slotted to Carey-Bertram who unleashed a drive from the edge of the area into the far corner past an outstretched Nikki Bull.
If not conceding early was in Brown's team-talk, this was about as bad as it could get.
But the Shots hit back instantly with the lively Nick Crittenden forcing a good save from Bulls keeper Wayne Brown.
They continued their search as Ahmed Deen delivered into the box from the left-hand side, McPhee took a touch and shot but aimed his effort straight at Brown.
At the other end, Ferrell blasted over when unmarked in the box, and with play continually changing ends, Tim Sills headed straight at the keeper.
The Bulls fans thought they had won a penalty when Carey-Bertram was downed by Scott Guyett, but a free kick was awarded right on the edge of the area.
Jon Brady delivered, new loan striker Matthew Bailey's shot was deflected before Brady himself also managed to get a shot off but was also blocked.
Sills' cross-cum-shot was gathered by Brown as the Shots continued to push for an equaliser.
Steve Watson, unexpectedly starting despite struggling with a groin injury after Saturday's exertions, then succumbed and was replaced by highly-rated youngster Ryan Scott.
On the stroke of half-time the Shots won a corner, Crittenden's delivery found Scott, who got a shot off but the keeper managed to collect low down.
The second half continued in much the same vein, Gary Holloway replaced Andre Boucard as the Shots looked to win the midfield battle with a new pairing.
Steve Reed's early second half free-kick was collected by the keeper before McPhee won a free kick on the edge of the D. Crittenden stepped up, curling a shot round the wall but Brown dived to save.
The Shots then won a free-kick in the exact same spot that the Bulls' penalty claims had come from in the first half. Reed again took the kick but put it just over the bar.
Bull punched Craig Stanley's effort off the line, Bailey pounced and shot, only for the keeper to react well and save low down.
Crittenden and Sills were again off target both high and wide respectively as they continued their search for parity.
Bull made an excellent save to deny Bailey, at full stretch to parry the ball round the post, which Brady headed over the bar.
The introduction of Darren Barnard had some hoping for a repeat of his heroics from Saturday, as the Shots continued to press.
McPhee had easily the best chance of the game to level, but somehow nodded over the bar from about as close range as you can get.
Two last-minute free-kicks had the fans gasping, but Crittenden's effort was well over and Barnard's was too far away to be of any real danger as the Bulls went home with the maximum points, sending the Shots back into the relegation zone.
Brown added: “Three points is the only thing to make me happy, not even a good performance. We could go to Burton and perform really well but we did that at Accrington Stanley.
“I'm bitterly disappointed to have lost that home record again because I wanted to build that up and I felt we were good enough to get something out of that today.”
The Shots now travel to Burton Albion on Sunday, with the boss hoping to have Ryan Williams back in the side for one last time, before he returns to Bristol Rovers.
Matt Gearing, who was once again absent from the bench, may be back for the trip to Burton.
Brown explained: “We have an understanding with Northampton that if we need him, we get him. At the moment he's getting games for the reserves, but we may well see him on Sunday.”
Burton host the Shots on the crest of a wave, with the scalp of Exeter claimed thanks to their 2-1 away win last Saturday.
They drew 2-2 with Cambridge United on Tuesday lifting them off the bottom putting them a point ahead of Aldershot.
Don't forget kick off at the Pirelli Stadium is at 2pm.
