Barnard Leaves The Shots

Last updated : 21 May 2007 By Stray Shots Team
Aldershot Town have parted company with captain Darren Barnard after the new boss decided against offering a new contract.

The 35-year-old had been at the club for three seasons and was respected by the supporters and players alike and will be missed - especially for his commitment on and off the pitch.

Barney joined the Recreation Ground in August 2004 after leaving Grimsby Town and quickly became a favourite with the supporters.

Last season, the former Welsh International struggled to find the form and experience that he had been showing but still mamaged to end the season being the clubs leading goal scorer from defence.

Barney is regarded as one - if not the best free kick takers in the Conference and when he is in the side his passing causes a real threat to the opposition.
