Brown In New Dixon Twist As Brett Decides

The Aldershot News has reported that the 18-year-old has been mulling over his future after attracting interest from League Two side Northampton Town, as well as other League clubs, while also offered being an improved deal by the Shots.

“I would expect to have Brett's decision by the end of today [Monday]. He's been thinking it over long enough and I would hope that during his time away he has reached a decision,” added Brown.

Meanwhile, the boss has said not to expect any further signings before July, as he waits to make his swoop on the transfer market.

“I'm in no massive rush as I say every week, but I really think that July will be the time to pick up players. They will have been training with pro-clubs, and will find out whether they are in or out, and once we know we can get the players in.

“I'll be looking at some in the trial games as well as bringing in loans,” added Brown.

The new transfer window brought in after last week's Conference AGM had been branded “nonsense” by the Shots boss but the League have relaxed rules about loan signings, which Brown believes will benefit the club.

Under the new rules clubs can sign four long-term loans and four short-term loans during the season, playing up to five in a game, the rules would also mean players could not be recalled from their loans once agreed.

“If I have read it right then it negates the whole transfer window in the first place,” laughed Brown.

“Loans work well for us because you can get a League One or League Two player in for less money than you would ordinarily pay out. The League club are happy as their boy gets regular football and we get a quality player,” added Brown.

With the talk of loans, one name that will invariable crop up is of Wycombe Wanderers striker Jonny Dixon, who scored nine goals in 12 games last season whilst at the Recreation Ground, however Brown is also still looking at Peterborough hit-man Wayne Purser.

“We would of course be interested in bringing Jonny Dixon back to the Rec, however, I have to decide whether I want a big strong striker or a smaller quick striker. At the moment I'm more inclined to bring a bigger lad in, so we could be looking at a loan deal with Wayne Purser,” added Brown.
