Brown Set To Reveal Fab Four?

The Shots have been heavily linked with Brentford striker Marcus Gayle over the past week, but the Shots boss refused to confirm or deny whether he would be one of the signings mooted.

However, when pressed on his transfer targets, Brown told the Aldershot News that one of the players he hopes to sign is someone who can play both up front and in defence – and the ex-Wimbledon man fits the bill perfectly.

If he is one of the players in the frame, the Shots will have beaten off strong interest from AFC Wimbledon who had targeted Gayle in an audacious transfer coup.

“We are currently in talks with two centre halves, a centre midfielder and another striker - it is a very busy time for us,” Brown told the reporter.

“If everything goes well, we will be signing at least four players by Sunday but if it goes pear shaped we will be unveiling at least two. There's been a lot of activity over the past few days.

“I am delighted with the players I have got on board but I will feel a bit happier when I have some centre halves in the squad too. That is my focus at the moment.”

The club had been linked with experienced Coventry defender Richard Shaw but chairman Karl Prentice admitted recently that while talks took place last year, nothing had happened this summer - indeed Shaw signed for Millwall today.

With just Dave Winfield signed up in the centre back position for next season Brown needs to make sure he brings in the right players to avoid a repeat of last season's terrible opening and he is confident he will do so.

“We need a minimum of two more centre halves and in a perfect world we would have three more in,” he added.

“I am going for defenders of real calibre and if we can get them in I'll be delighted. I may even be after a player who can play centre half and centre forward, you never know.

“I'm quite happy with how the rest of the squad is shaping up, even though things have been difficult this summer. I have not got all my main transfer targets but I have got the calibre of player I wanted to bring in.”
