Collins To Join Shots?

The official Blue Square Premier website www.bluesquarefootball.com has reported that Newport County midfielder Jamie Collins has linked up with former boss Dean Holdsworth at Aldershot Town.

Collins apparently had looked set to join The Shots League Two rivals Stevenage, however as he is a non-contract player with Newport, they have reportedly been unable to prevent the player from talking to other teams - including The Shots.

An amnesty agreement between Newport County and Aldershot Town which was agreed when Holdsworth signed for The Shots had meant that no transfers between the two clubs could take place until June 1 but with Newport agreeing to waive the amnesty, County will be financially compensated for the loss of their vice-captain who has reportedly joined The Shots for an undisclosed fee.

Speaking to the local Newport media the Exiles boss Tim Harris said: "Once a player wants to leave there is little point keeping him, it does nothing for the dressing room."

There is no official news from Aldershot Town as of yet.
