Promising Shots youngster Doug Bergqvist has become the latest player to abandon the sinking Shots boat after the 20-year old has been confirmed as signing a deal with League 2 side Exeter City.

The Swedish born defender who came to England aged 10 made his way through the Academy ranks at Reading and Queens Park Rangers and was certainly a player who could have made the grade if he was given more of an opportunity at the club.

Speaking to the official Exeter City website, Chief Executive Julian Tagg said: “We’re delighted to have had the opportunity to bring in a young prospect of Doug’s calibre.

“Not only does he have exciting potential for the future, but he has already played League football and knows what the game is about at a competitive level.

“He is someone that we’ve looked at the possibility of signing before and we’re very pleased that we have had the opportunity to add him to our ranks.”

We wish Doug all the very best for his future career.

The announcement now means that the Shots are left with just five players on their books ahead of the players return for pre-season training which is believed to get underway this coming week (possibly on Thursday 4th July).

A poster on Shots Talk has however stated that former youth team captain Adam Brice (who plays left back) and attacking midfielder/forward Reece Beckles-Richards are stepping up to the first team squad.

There has, however been no official confirmation of this on the official Shots website.
