Speaking to the Aldershot News he said, "I saw the surgeon on Wednesday night," said Day. "There is rather more damage than at first thought. Some of the ligaments have been torn and there are two or three big pieces of bone floating around after they were pulled off the main ankle bone.
"I have two options: either I have an operation to fix the ligaments and have the loose bones removed or I rest and allow the ligaments to heal and just live with the loose bone. It's not causing me any discomfort and the surgeon thinks there is a 95% chance that I will make a full recovery, just be resting the injury, which sounds promising.
"But that period of rest is six to eight weeks and that's the season done for me."
Aldershot's last League Two game, away to Lincoln City, is six weeks from tomorrow. In the unlikely event that Aldershot make the play-offs and then the final (May 23), there is next-to-no chance of Day being match-fit.
