First Five Told To Go

2004/05 Player of the Season and club captain Steve Watson has been released by manager Terry Brown as he starts his team rebuilding ahead of next season.

34-year old Watson is joined by Lewis Hamilton, Hassan Sulaiman, Tobi Jinadu and reserve goalkeeper Dan Weait as the first of an expected ten to be shown the door after a disappointing season.

Injury hit Watson never really recaptured anything like the form which saw him voted Player of the Year at the end of the 2004/05 season and only managed to make 28 first team appearances this season which was not enough to meet a contract renewal clause in his contract.

The trio of Hamilton, Sulaiman and Jinadu - who has been on the transfer list for most of the season have been shown the door as a result of the worst defensive record in the Conference - an area which is in desperate need of improvement if the Shots are going to stand any chance of making the play-offs next season.

18 year-old Dan Weait joined from Basingstoke last August, but made just one appearance substitute appearance in the league during the shocking 3-1 defeat against Cambridge in April.

The next news on released players is expected to be surrounding the futures of short term loanees Johnny Dixon, Ian Simpemba, Kirk Hudson, Kyle Matthews, Leroy Griffiths and Ryan Crockford.
