Gayle, who has had an extensive career, is held in legendary status by Wimbledon supporters after making 285 appearances for The Wombles between 1994 and 2001 in the Premiership - pre Milton Keynes days.
Commenting on his new signing Terry Brown said, "I signed him this time last year and he genuinely was the first name I wanted to bring here when I knew I had the Wimbledon job.
"The first time I met him I was absolutely amazed how down to earth he was considering the level of football he has played at all his career. He was a fantastic role model for my younger players, never missed training and was always totally dedicated."
"He is a fantastically gifted footballer and gives you that option to play him left midfield, centre forward or as a centre back. At 37 he may not play fifty games a season but wherever he plays he will do a great job."
