The 25-year-old was let go by new Posh boss Mark Wright last week, despite having another year left on his contract, after being told he "has no chance of playing" in the first team this season despite netting six goals in 15 starts for the relegated side last term.
But Brown is a long-term admirer of the hitman and enquired about his availability prior to his switch to the Posh — this following the financial demise of Hornchurch earlier in the season.
Brown does, however, face stiff competition for Purser's signature with big-spending Conference South favourites Weymouth also in the hunt. The Terras are also managed by Garry Hill who was Purser's manager at Hornchurch.
The Shots boss said: “We have got a list of about eight strikers that we are talking to and I have spoken to Purser's agent but he is one of several names that we are looking at," said Brown.
Dorset Echo reporter Matt Pitman reported last week on Weymouths interest in the forward, saying that the Terras were also lining up a move for the striker.
Manager Gary Hill told the paper, "I like Wayne Purser and I'd certainly like to sign him for Weymouth.
"I signed him at Hornchurch where he did tremendously well before he joined Peterborough.
"Having been his manager before, I know what he is all about and likewise he would also know what to expect from me.
"But while I'd be interested in signing him, I haven't spoken to him about any deal at this stage.
"He is under contract to a Football League club and I can't do anything unless that situation changes.
"Obviously I'll keep my eye on Wayne's situation over the coming weeks and take things from there.
"There are dozens of players out there I'm monitoring and dozens more I'm speaking to, but only when contracts are signed am I happy."
Meanwhile Brown also hoped to be tying up a deal with centre half John Brough this week, as he finalises arrangements on his contract, as exclusively revealed by the News last week.
Centre back Brough, 32, had been set to sign last week but as the club look to iron out an issue over housing, Brown is confident his man will put pen to paper this week — especially since Rovers boss Gary Owers has stepped out of the race.
Meanwhile, Brown has been boosted by the news that midfield lynchpin Dave Lee is also due to sign a new deal to stay at the Rec this week, while young defender Brett Johnson — a target for Northampton Town — continues to mull over his future whilst on holiday.
Brown has confirmed that the Cobblers have definitely expressed an interest in the youngster but after an improved offer from the Shots, Johnson remains undecided.
Club captain and Player of the Year, Steve Watson was also due for talks at the Recreation Ground tonight to discuss his future with the manager.
Brown was hopeful that his skipper would reach a decision before the end of the week, but according to the former Farnborough Town and Stevenage hard man, there is still a lot to discuss.
He said: "The ball is in their court, I haven't made a decision yet as I have got to speak to Terry. I want to stay and sign for Aldershot, but I have got other options so it's got to be the right decision for me."
With thanks to the Aldershot News.
