Aldershot News reporters, Alex Narey and Rebekah Wheeler have stated that both players have been attracting the attentions of other Conference clubs recently and with the departure of former Boro manager Dean Austin – the pair are possibly set to move away from Cherrywood Road.
Holloway is the subject of a possible move across Rushmoor and Terry Brown is a known admirer of the creative midfielder having made two previous enquiries for the player. He could be seen as the answer to his problems as the Shots manager looks to build a team that can make the play offs and/or launch a serious assault for the title next season.
Following Boro's home defeat against Leigh RMI on Saturday, Holloway said, “All the lads were gutted seeing Dean go, he was a good fella.
“We may have been struggling but the atmosphere was great when Dean and Gerry were here. None of the players have got anything against the new guys, they have just been thrown in and they seem like good guys to be honest.
“The same goes with Ron Higgins, I don't have a problem with him.
“But Dean had an awful time at this club. He wasn't allowed to do what he wanted to do with problems upstairs.”
Holloway was always likely to go once Austin departed, with a reported clause in his contract stating that he could leave if the manager left.
"I'm just going to see what happens,” he said. “I spoke to Dean in the summer, I liked what he said and as I said, I haven't got anything against the new guys but I just want to play at the best level I can.
“It is nothing against Farnborough Town, I have had a decent season and I want to push on. If I want to do that, I need to do it now.”
Burton, who could complete a move to Francis Vines promotion chasing Crawley Town today, said: “It's time for a fresh challenge for me, all I want to do is play hard for a team, win some games and get back to enjoying my football because the last couple of months or so I haven't been enjoying it.
"There have been too many promises made that haven't been fulfilled. One of the biggest problems is that there were these new guys coming in and no one came down to the players and told us what was going on.
“I had lads coming up to me looking for guidance and I had no answers.
“If someone had come down and said 'this is who we are, this is our plan, this is what we're about' it might have been OK. But we didn't know who was in charge.
"The relationship between Dean and the players was spot on. It's the other factors that have caused problems. The fans deserve more than this. There might not be many of them but they are so loyal and they've had a lot to put up with.
“I am sad to be leaving on such a negative note, especially after Saturday and going out after a defeat. It's not a case of jumping ship, I've made my feelings clear for the last couple of months. It's for personal reasons and I feel it would be better for both parties.
"I really hope the club can sort itself out, if they stay up then great, but if not hopefully they can re-group and get themselves stable before pushing for promotion again."
Austin claimed that both players would leave.
“The club can kiss goodbye to those two," he said.
