Speaking on the deal Shots Chairman John McGinty said, "This is a fantastic deal for the club and for Joel Grant.
"We could not stand in his way as it is a great opportunity for him. Joel travelled back from holiday in Jamaica especially to sign the deal.
"We wish Joel every success in his career and thank him for the service that he gave the club."
Manager Gary Waddock added, "Joel is a talented player and this is his chance to perform at a higher level.
"We gave him the platform and the stage at Aldershot and he certainly took that.
"We will miss him and he will be a great addition to Crewe Alexandra.
"It is an opportunity for Joel to progress his career and I wish him every success".
The 20-year old made a total of 61 appearances for the Shots in two spells, scoring 10 goals.
He initially joined the club on loan during the early part of the 2006/07 season from Watford and after being released by the Hertfordshire side at the end of that season he started training with the Aldershot squad and forced his way into the starting line up.
Speaking on the official Crewe Aldexander website Grant said, "I think my main strength is my attacking play. I hope I can get some goals for the team and become a big threat in the attacking third."
